The Master of Arts in Education from the Paris-based European Global School is an additional high-level certification that is aimed at practicing teachers who are looking to further their teaching knowledge, increase their qualification portfolio benefitting their career prospects and the quality of their students’ education.
The full course program consists of eight modules delivered over a 12-month period.
However, candidates who already hold a Vantage TEFL Certification are able to receive credit that allows two modules to be waived.
For Vantage TEFL graduates the course is therefore divided into six separate modules:
Module 1: Curriculum & Instruction: Planning & Development
Module 2: Dimensions of Learning: Application in Classroom
Module 3: Assessment in Education: Measurement & Evaluation
Module 4: Educational Technology: The 21st Century Classroom
Module 5: Classroom Dynamics and Behavior Management
Module 6: Educational Research: Designs and Procedures
Course fees for the entire Master's program are THB 150,000 (approx. US$ 4,500)
To be eligible for the MA in Education you must:
Each module will require somewhere in the region of 50 hours of study, including a 3,500 to 4,000 word assignment.
On completion of all the six modules and their written assignments, you will then need to submit an action research paper of around 5,000 words to complete the course.
While you can set your own pace, the whole of the course content is delivered over a period of a minimum of eight months.
For candidates who have already completed a BA in TESOL, a further two modules will be waived. (Contact Vantage for details.)
Additionally, there are optional discussion sessions that are held on two prescheduled Saturdays for each module of the course in Bangkok. Logistically, this option is only available to those living and working in the region, but it is a highly recommended feature for those who are able to attend. These are completely optional and are not required for course graduation.
The course can be completed entirely online from any location in the world, providing considerable flexibility when it comes to how and when you choose to study.
The general aim of the Master of Arts in Education is to prepare a highly skilled, internationally-orientated workforce of teachers who have an increased level of knowledge, skills, and efficiency.
By successfully completing the course you will develop the following range of transferable skills:
- A comprehensive understanding of educational and psychological theories, principles and concepts that directly or indirectly affect teaching and learning.
- The ability to critically analyze and verify the application of these theories, principles, and concepts in your own day-to-day teaching practices.
- The ability to construct models and plan strategies aimed at improving curriculum delivery.
- The ability to employ assessment techniques that are in alignment with modern teaching practice.
- The development of a sound educational philosophy that is reflected throughout the planning and delivery of your lessons.
- The ability to evaluate contemporary educational ideas and practices and critically examine their relevance, appropriateness, and benefit in relation to your own students’ learning and achievement.
- The resolve to embrace, practice and advocate for educational best practices that maximize teacher satisfaction and students’ success in learning.
Throughout the course, your understanding and progress will be assessed by the completion of a written assignment that accompanies each module. The six module assignments are based on putting the theory you have learned from the module’s materials into practice in the classroom.
Each assignment’s requirements will vary depending on the contents of each module, but they will generally be between 3,500 and 4,000 words in length. In addition to the six module assignments, you will need to complete an action research paper of 5,000 words to round off your studies.
As the course is designed to provide a practical-based learning experience, the course assignments are used to assess an individual’s understanding by how effectively they have applied the content of each module in real life situations. At no time will you be required to undertake any formal exams. Instead, the course’s ongoing assessment strategy is designed to gauge each student's ability to apply, analyze, synthesize, evaluate and create, rather than the ability to regurgitate facts.
