One of the most cosmopolitan countries in the world, Singapore is a fascinating place to visit. Founded by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles in the 1819, Singapore has a long British colonial history and was once known as the “Jewel of the British Empire”. Since independence, the country has grown from strength to strength becoming a world economic power. Despite growing into a thoroughly modern Asian metropolis, evidence of its British history can be seen throughout the city in its many monuments, place names and architecture. There are four official languages in Singapore with Malay, Mandarin and Tamil spoken widely, but English is the language of government and the state education system. The city is easy to get to with direct flights from hundreds of destinations as well as by ferry from a number of destinations in the region. Although the city is well developed, with much of the island given over to urbanization, there are still plenty of green spaces to enjoy in the parks and nature reserves. For entertainment you can head to Sentosa Island where Universal Studios Singapore is located as well as a number of other attractions including Madame Tussauds and the SEA Aquarium. For nightlife and dining out the areas around Clarke Quay, Bat Quay and Arab Street offer plenty to satisfy your needs and shoppers will be in heaven along Orchard Road.
The excellent transport network in Singapore makes getting around very easy and the many city tours and tourist passes enable you to see all the attractions the city has to offer. For a more tranquil experience, head to Ubin and Kusu islands where you can relax in nature and enjoy pristine beaches.
Located in Singapore’s Central Business District in the heart of the city, our Singapore TEFL training center is ideally situated to make the most of what this island city-state has to offer. Nearby you will find the fabulous Marina Bay as well as Boat Quay and Clarke Quay where there are plenty of restaurants, bars and shopping malls. Access to the rest of the city is easy from the nearby MRT station offering bus and train services around the island.
