TEFL International and Asian University successfully hosted the First Annual TEFL International / Asian University Thai TESOL Conference at Asian University in Pattaya City on April 26th and 27th, 2006. Over 230 people attended the two day event and there was a wonderful sharing of ideas passed back and forth between Thai teachers and native-speaking teachers on how to make large classes of young learners more communicative.

Bruce Veldhuisen, CEO of TEFL International leads an interactive discussion on idea-sharing about using communicative teaching with young learners in Thailand Dr. David Nunan, author and Chair professor of Linguistics at Hong Kong University, was the keynote speaker and gave a wonderful interactive presentation on: Taking a task-based approach to teaching grammar.

Other speakers included: Bob Woodhead, Head of the Center of Testing, who spoke about English Proficiency in the Classroom; Prof. Mark Starrs of Asian University who gave a presentation on Content-based teaching; Dean Robert Shrubshall talked about developing reading skills; Christopher Robinson from Pearson-Longman gave an interactive workshop on creative use with course books; and teacher trainer Chris Finch from TEFL International showed how songs can be used for fun in the language classroom.
